The authors of the poems

Vilhelm Krag was an author of prose, a journalist, a publishing consultant, an instructor and theatre director. He was born in Kristiansand and lived most of his life in the south of Norway.

It was Krag who named this part of the country “Sørlandet”. He had his debut as a news reporter at the age of 13 and had his first poem published as a 16 year old.

Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson was one of Norway’s national poets. He was also well known as a social commentator, editor and theatre personality.

He received the Nobel Prize of Literature in 1903.

Bjørnson wrote the words to the Norwegian national anthem, “Ja, vi elsker dette landet”.
